Job description
Shift Type: Days + On-Call
Schedule: Day shift (full-time, 40 hrs/week)
On-Call: Shared equitably among providers (includes weekdays, weekends, holidays, and night coverage as needed)
Weekend Requirements: Occasional weekend call
Opening Reason: Growth and expansion of orthopedic services
POSITION OVERVIEW
Team Assignment: PAs are assigned to a pool of 2–3 orthopedic surgeons
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform comprehensive and problem-focused history and physical exams
Interpret and correlate lab, imaging, and diagnostic procedures
Formulate differential diagnoses and treatment plans within scope of practice
Order and interpret diagnostic studies (X-ray, CT, MRI, bone scans, EMG, EKG, etc.)
Prescribe medications, order tests, review labs, and complete progress/discharge notes
Provide pre- and post-operative patient care and education
Surgical first assist (including closures, appliance applications, delegated tasks)
PROCEDURES :
Digital blocks, regional anesthesia, minor outpatient surgical procedures (tendon repair, wound closure, debridement, I&D, biopsies, fracture pinning, k-wire/hardware removal)
Joint/bursa aspirations, closed fracture reductions, dislocation management
Injections (joints, tendons, trigger points, bursa)
Cast, brace, and splint applications
Serve as primary orthopedic call provider for ED consults and inpatients at the Hospital
Conduct hospital rounds, admit/discharge patients, dictate summaries, and participate in multidisciplinary rounding
Utilize Epic EMR for documentation and order entry
Participate in quality assurance, coding documentation queries, and safety initiatives
SKILLS :
Proficiency with EMR (Epic) and clinical documentation
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams
Ability to work independently and handle emergent situations
Knowledge of orthopedic anatomy, procedures, and treatment options
Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to balance multiple responsibilities and perform under stress
Demonstrated initiative, motivation, and commitment to patient-centered care
Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements
Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and stretching
Adequate agility, vision, color vision, hearing, and fine motor coordination
Ability to assist with patient transfers and lift up to 75 pounds
Exposure to blood/body fluids (standard precautions required)
Effective communication (oral/written) in-person and by phone
Regular, punctual attendance required
COMPESATION AND BENEFITS:
Base Salary: $160,000 annually (based on experience, full-time 40 hr/week)
Sign-On Bonus: Up to $10,000 (discussed during interview)

REQUIREMENTS:
Board Certified Physician Assistant (PA) – Required
Oregon PA License (or willingness to obtain) – Required
Clean Malpractice History & Background – Required
NPDB Self-Query Report – Required at submission
Experience: Minimum 2 years inpatient orthopedic PA experience – Highly Preferred (new grads considered)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Permanent, full-time position requiring local residency (relocation may be required)
