Pediatric Psychologist – Medical Subspecialty Clinics/Outpatient Services

The Pediatric Psychology Consultation Program in the Department of Behavioral Psychology at the Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) is seeking a full-time pediatric psychologist to provide clinical services to children and adolescents with medical conditions (and their caregivers) who have associated coping, adjustment or behavioral difficulties. This position includes provision of services (evaluation, treatment, consultation) as an embedded psychologist within multidisciplinary medical subspecialty clinic(s) and our outpatient pediatric psychology clinic with additional opportunity to provide backup to inpatient medical units at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide pediatric psychology services as an embedded psychologist within 1-2 multidisciplinary pediatric subspecialty clinic(s) through KKI. Services provided in clinics include brief assessment and recommendations, short-term intervention, and referral services. Priority subspecialty clinic options include Sleep Disorders (multiple available), Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) (multiple available), and Angelman Syndrome.
Provide pediatric psychology outpatient services (biopsychosocial assessment, therapy and caregiver training). All patients have referral concerns related to one or more medical diagnoses and include: pain and physical symptom management; behavioral sleep intervention; medical procedure preparation/desensitization; management of functional neurological symptoms; medical regimen adherence; coping with chronic illness or frequent hospitalization; biofeedback for management of pain or behavioral distress; assessment using actigraphy; comorbid mood, anxiety, or behavioral difficulties. Psychologists in these positions will conduct services at a suburban clinic in Columbia, Maryland (primary location, 3 days per week) as well as at our East Baltimore medical campus (secondary location, 2 days/week).
Provide consultation/liaison services to pediatric patients in acute care inpatient setting at John’s Hopkins Hospital on a monthly basis. Referral concerns can include pain and physical symptom management, coping/adjustment with chronic illness or hospitalization, and medical regimen adherence, among many others. This role may also involve training of interns and postdoctoral fellows.
Optional: Facilitator for the Comfort Ability Program
Psychologists in these positions can opt to train to become a facilitator for the Comfort Ability Program (CAP) which is offered both in person and via telehealth.
Theis position involves participation in weekly team meetings including rounds, research and clinical topic didactics, and administrative staff meetings. If interested, candidates will be encouraged to collaborate on clinical research or program evaluation as time permits. Our team is part of a large and diverse training program encompassing doctoral intern and postdoctoral fellowship programs. Although primary responsibility is providing clinical services, these positions may also contribute to supervision and training of doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows during elective trainee clinic rotations, group supervision sessions, and trainee peer supervision.
Required Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in clinical, counseling, or school psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program.
• Internship training from an APA-accredited program in clinical child or pediatric psychology.
• Post-doctoral fellowship training in pediatric psychology.
• Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Maryland. The applicant must possess a Maryland psychologist license and be credentialed through the Kennedy Krieger Medical staff office before beginning the position.
• Expertise in providing behavioral and cognitive-behavioral therapy with pediatric and young adult patients and in providing caregiver training when appropriate.
