Position Overview
IDHS is seeking a Physician Specialist to serve as the primary care physician on a secure forensic unit at the Elizabeth Packard Mental Health Center. This role provides medical care to patients and staff, collaborates with psychiatrists, and participates in medical committees.
Essential Duties
• Provide primary medical care on a forensic unit
• Consult with psychiatrists and interdisciplinary staff
• Conduct medical evaluations, including employee injury assessments
• Participate in required trainings and medical staff committees
Minimum Requirements
• Illinois Physician & Surgeon License
• American Board Certification in Internal Medicine
Preferred Experience
• Experience providing medical care to individuals with mental illness
• Experience coordinating care with other disciplines
• Strong communication and documentation skills
Conditions of Employment
• Illinois Controlled Substance License and DEA Registration
• Ability to meet medical staff appointment requirements
• Ability to travel, stand/walk for extended periods, and engage in patient interventions when needed
• BLS certification, ability to testify in court, and serve as MOD
• Successful background check and drug screening
