Locum CRNA Opportunity – Independent Practice
Job description
We’re seeking experienced, independently practicing CRNAs for a full-time locum opportunity at a critical access hospital in Sitka, Alaska. This is an autonomous, CRNA-only model in a rural island setting, offering a full range of anesthesia services including OB, spinals, epidurals, and regional blocks. Ideal candidates are confident in solo practice and thrive in low-volume, high-autonomy settings.
📍 Location Options:
Sitka, AK – Critical access hospital (primary need)
Optional: ~6 shifts/month available at an office-based procedure suite in Juneau, AK (sedation-only, no call)
🗓 Schedule & Call Structure:
9-week rotation:
6 weeks on / 3 weeks off
2 of those weeks: 24/7 home call (Tues AM–Tues AM)
4 weeks: Tuesday–Friday, 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM–5:00 PM)
Call:
From home with 30-minute callback
Backup generally available
Average call-back ~10 hrs/week (variable)
🏥 Facility & Case Mix – Sitka:
25+ bed Critical Access Hospital
Level IV Trauma ED (24/7)
CRNA-Only Model – No MDAs onsite
2 ORs + procedure suite
Approx. 30 cases/week
Case Mix (Bread & Butter):
Endo, general surgery, ortho, ENT, podiatry, OB/GYN, dental
No high-risk OB, sick peds, or high-risk cases
OB Anesthesia:
~8 deliveries/month
70% epidural rate
Scheduled C-sections + rare emergent C-sections
Labor epidurals/spinals only
🛠 Skills & Responsibilities:
General anesthesia, spinals, epidurals
Regional Blocks (preferred but flexible):
Interscalene, supraclavicular, femoral, fascia iliaca, PENG, popliteal, adductor canal
Sedation for ED procedures
Respond to code blues and traumas
Intubations & occasional blocks/sedation for floor or ED procedures
Occasional ICU support (central lines a plus but not required)
📋 Requirements:
Alaska license required (no IHS exemption)
Board Certified CRNA
Minimum 2 years of independent CRNA experience strongly preferred
Certifications (must be AHA certified):
Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS
Preferred: ATLS, ALSO, NRP, STABLE
DEA not required
💡 Juneau Sedation Shifts (Optional Add-On):
Sedation-only cases (ASA I–II patients >15 y/o)
Dental and OB/GYN focus
Office-based suite, solo CRNA with phone backup only
No intubations, no call
10-hour shifts
🕑 Credentialing:
Standard timeframe: ~90 days
Emergency credentialing: Possible, depending on speed of submission and committee schedule
