Anesthesiologist Nocturnist Needed in North Carolina
Target Start Date: April 6, 2026 (ASAP candidates encouraged)
Contract Length: 6‑month assignment, potential extension
Schedule
Coverage Type: Scheduled clinical hours — no call
Shift Structure & Expectations:
True nocturnist role
5:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. (overnight coverage)
Shifts needed every night of the week
Strong, consistent night‑time staffing need
Providers must be dedicated nocturnists (required for consideration)
EMR: Cerner + AIMS
Practice Details
Setting:
Acute care hospital
High‑volume anesthesia department
Care‑team model with physician + CRNA support
Designated stroke center; part of a large regional system
Department Focus:
High‑acuity adult anesthesia coverage during overnight hours
Supervision of CRNAs with the option to perform own cases
Peripheral nerve blocks required
Large case mix, including OB, trauma, neuro, vascular, ortho, urology, endoscopy, and robotics
Minimal pediatrics; no craniotomies or transplant cases
Dedicated daytime teams for trauma and cardiac
Support Staff:
Overnight teams typically include:
1 anesthesiologist
3–4 CRNAs depending on census
Credentialing Timeframe:
Typical processing: ~90 days
Start date driven by speed of application completion

Endoscopy
General surgery
Trauma support
OB coverage (busy service)
Vascular potential
Must be able to perform peripheral nerve blocks
Additional Details:
High volume case environment
3,500–4,000 general cases per month
Cardiovascular cases performed by a separate cardiac team
Overnight work is primarily general and OB/trauma support
Requirements
Role: Physician — Anesthesiology (Nocturnist)
Board Certification: Board Eligible or Board Certified
License: Must hold active North Carolina license (required)
DEA: Required
Experience:
Prior nocturnist or significant overnight anesthesia experience strongly preferred
Ability to manage anesthesia independently and within a care‑team environment
Skills Required:
Competency with high‑acuity adult cases
Peripheral nerve block proficiency
Ability to supervise CRNAs and provide hands‑on care as needed
Comfort working overnight in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment
Location
Asheville, North Carolina — Overnight anesthesia coverage at a major regional acute care hospital with trauma services, high procedural volume, and a broad mix of adult surgical specialties.
