General Anesthesiologist Needed in the Greater Houston, Texas Area

Job description

A hospital in the Greater Houston, Texas area is seeking a general anesthesiologist for locum tenens coverage. Current and anticipated coverage needs extend through the fall and winter of 2026.

The client may consider anesthesiologists available from one to four weeks per month with an initial commitment of approximately three months. Day shifts generally begin at 6:30 a.m. and may range from 10–12 hours. Call assignments may begin with the daytime shift and continue until 7:00 a.m. the following morning, with backup call taken from home after evening cases are completed.

Weekend coverage may include 24-hour primary or secondary home call. Providers with flexible schedules and willingness to participate in call coverage will receive priority consideration.

The case mix includes general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, neurology, endoscopy, obstetrics and urology. Candidates must be comfortable with neuro-spine procedures and craniotomies. Rare healthy pediatric cases may involve patients as young as approximately 18 months.

The practice operates under a supervision model. Anesthesiologists perform their own cases, supervise CRNAs and may work independently while on call. New graduates may be considered.

Candidates must hold an active Texas license and current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications. Temporary privileges may be available in approximately five weeks for candidates with a clean file and substantial availability. Standard credentialing may require 60–90 days.

The assignment offers competitive compensation with additional compensation for overtime, callbacks, holidays and call coverage.
