Locum Tenens Anesthesiologist – Virginia
This Anesthesiology locum tenens opportunity offers a dynamic hospital-based practice environment across multiple Virginia facilities. The practice supports a full spectrum of surgical services in a collaborative anesthesia care team model, providing a balance of medical direction and independent case work.
Opportunity Highlights
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday (50 hours per week)
Assignment Type: Onsite coverage with flexibility across three locations (hospital and ambulatory settings)
Practice Model: Medical direction – 1:3 supervision ratio (CRNAs always practice under an Anesthesiologist)
Scope: Combination of medical direction and solo cases
Technology: Epic EMR
Case Mix & Procedures
Cases include: General surgery, orthopedics, thoracic, OB, endoscopy, trauma, open heart, and organ harvest (no transplants)
Pediatrics: Healthy pediatric cases (dental, ENT, and minor procedures)
MDs: Should be comfortable performing nerve blocks (preferred but not required – supraclavicular, popliteal)
Facility Overview
Main hospital: Level II Trauma Center with 16 ORs, 2 OB suites, 8 endoscopy rooms, cath holding, IR, and ED coverage
Ambulatory Surgery Center: Fast-turnaround outpatient cases; 6 ORs, primarily ortho, ENT, and healthy peds
Community Hospital: Smaller site focused on OB and general cases; non-trauma environment
Coverage Model: 24-hour staffed anesthesia service, with 12-hour call blocks (7a–7p / 7p–7a)
Licensing & Requirements
Board Certification: Required in Anesthesiology (MD/DO)
License: Active Virginia medical license
Certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS required
