An acute care hospital in southeastern New Mexico is seeking a locum Emergency Medicine physician for ongoing 24-hour coverage. With approximately 16,651 annual visits and an average of 62 patients per day, this ED offers the chance to practice broad-spectrum medicine in a lower-acuity, high-need environment. The admission rate is just 5%, and complex cases are stabilized and transferred (7% transfer rate).

The facility is part of a respected regional system and features EPIC EMR, 24/7 CT, real-time radiology reads, and strong hospitalist support for floor codes and admissions. MDs are supported by a 4-bed fast track, and while scribe coverage is not provided, documentation is manageable with CPOE in place.

About the clinician’s workday
You’ll handle full-spectrum ED cases across all age groups with no trauma designation. While the acuity is moderate (Level 3), you’ll need to be comfortable managing initial stabilization. There’s no APP support, but the ED volume is highly manageable for solo MD/DO coverage.
