Gastroenterology
I have a client in Manhattan who's seeking an experienced GI APP for locums coverage starting ASAP. I have limited information at the moment, but more to come soon....
Patient Assessment & Diagnosis
Take detailed patient histories focused on GI complaints (e.g., abdominal pain, reflux, diarrhea, constipation, bleeding).
Perform focused physical exams.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, endoscopic reports).
Management of GI Conditions
Initiate and manage treatment plans for conditions such as:
GERD
IBD (Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis)
IBS
Hepatitis B/C
Fatty liver disease
Celiac disease
Pancreatitis
GI bleeding
Prescribe medications, including biologics or immunosuppressants if within their scope.
Procedural Support
Assist in endoscopic procedures (EGD, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy).
Perform minor procedures in some settings (e.g., anoscopy, placement of NG tubes, removal of PEG tubes).
Pre- and Post-Procedure Care
Provide patient education on bowel prep and expectations for endoscopic procedures.
Conduct pre-op assessments and post-procedure follow-ups.
Monitor for complications.
Inpatient Rounding & Consults
Participate in hospital rounds for GI consults.
Coordinate care with hospitalists, surgeons, dietitians, and case management.
