Gastroenterologist Locum Opportunity | South Carolina | 6-Month Minimum

Job description

A large, integrated health system in South Carolina is seeking Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Gastroenterologists to provide inpatient and outpatient coverage across three high-volume facilities. This is a 6-month block with an option to extend, ideal for providers seeking a dynamic, procedure-heavy environment with strong team support.

Schedule & Assignment Overview:
- Start Date: Flexible
- Minimum Commitment: 6-month blocks (option to extend)
- Daily Hours: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM on-site
- Call: Off-site call from 4:00 PM – 6:59 AM (return only for true emergencies)

Practice Setting:
- Multi-site coverage across: Hospital-based GI, Outpatient clinic, Free-standing GI center
- Patient Population: 100% adult
- Travel between sites as needed (less than ~10 minutes)

Procedural Scope:
- Required Procedures: Upper GI endoscopy with biopsy, Colonoscopy with biopsy/polyp excision, Sigmoidoscopy, Small bowel biopsy, Esophageal dilation, Manometry interpretation

- Preferred/Advanced Procedures (if applicable): ERCP, EUS, Variceal banding/injection, Liver biopsy, Foreign body removal, Blakemore tube placement/management

Support Structure:
Support Team includes: 9 APPs, Dedicated OR team and CRNAs at the ASC
- APP assistance for rounding and established patient follow-up

Call Volume Details:
-Average inpatient consults per day: 6-10
- APPs assist with rounding and follow-ups
- Procedures per day: typically 8–12, mix of EGD, colonoscopy, and advanced if skilled
- Call backs during off-site hours are rare, but locum must be available to return for true emergencies

✅ Requirements
-Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology
- Active or eligible for South Carolina license
- Comfortable with both procedures and consult-based care
- Advanced GI skills preferred but not required
- Willingness to float between nearby hospital sites as needed
