Psychiatrist or PMHNP – Correctional Medicine
Position Overview
We are seeking a Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide mental health services within a super maximum-security correctional facility housing approximately 848 adult male inmates. This role offers a structured schedule, physician collaboration, and a controlled clinical environment.
Schedule
36–40 hours per week
4x10-hour shifts or 5x8-hour shifts (flexible)
No call
Practice Setting
Super max correctional facility
Adult male inmate population (848 inmates)
Patient encounters occur in:
On-site mental health clinic
Inmate housing units/cells when clinically indicated
Clinical Support
Work alongside a physician
Multidisciplinary correctional health team
Security staff present during all inmate interactions
Responsibilities
Psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments
Medication management for serious mental illness
Crisis intervention and suicide risk assessments
Treatment planning and continuity of psychiatric care
Documentation in accordance with facility and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
Board-certified / board-eligible Psychiatrist or
PMHNP with active or eligible state license
REQUIRED: Minimum 3+ years of correctional psychiatry experience within the past 10 years
Strong clinical judgment and comfort working in a secure environment
