CLINICAL ASSESSOR

Job description

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Grants and Community Engagement and the general supervision of the 36th District Court, the Clinical Assessor will provide level of care assessments and referral services to clients. The Clinical Assessor is responsible for conducting the initial assessment to determine eligibility and to ensure that an initial treatment plan is developed that will identify the services and level of care needed. The Clinical Assessor will work with treatment agency clinical staff to ensure a smooth transition to treatment services.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides assessments for persons who suffer from addiction, mental illness, co-occurring substance use disorder and mental illness, or post-traumatic stress in order to prevent them from cycling through the criminal justice system.
• Conducts initial assessments to determine eligibility and ensure that an initial treatment plan is developed that will identify the services and level of care needed.
• Connects clients with the treatment programs (mental health and/or co-occurring substance use disorder treatment) they need to maintain stability.
• Provides level of care assessments and referral services to clients.
• Conducts initial assessments to determine eligibility and to ensure that an initial treatment plan is developed that will identify the services and level of care needed.
• Works with treatment agency clinical staff to ensure a smooth transition to treatment services
• Conducts confidential substance use disorder and mental health assessments to determine an individual’s diagnosis and level of care for placement, such as residential treatment, inpatient treatment, IOP, OP, or early intervention services. This may also include referral for psychiatric services or co-occurring treatment.
• Makes placements to the appropriate facilities based on the outcome of the assessment interview.
• Uses a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to work collaboratively with clients and internal treatment team members to help support clients in their treatment.
• Provides clinical consultation to referral resources, family members and others to help support clients in their treatment.
• Works closely with clients to engage them in the decision-making process and helps them understand the benefits of assessment and accessing the appropriate level of care.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
A Master’s Degree from a recognized college or university in a Human Service, Social Service, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or a related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of professional experience in a behavioral healthcare, mental health, or criminal justice setting.
REQUIRED LICENSE(S).
A Valid State of Michigan clinical licensure: LMSW, LMHC, LPC, LLP, RN or PhD.
(A Limited License will be accepted)
MCBAP Certification: CAADC, CADC, CPS, or CPC (Preferred)
A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
This is a grant funded position. The grant funds are allocated on a year to year basis. If the grant funds are not allocated, this position will expire.

Although this position will work under the supervision of the Grants and Community Engagement Director for the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN), DWIHN will only pay for the fringe benefits for this position and the incumbent of this position will have not have status as a DWIHN employee.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee working in this position will be required to report to the 36th District Court five days per week. This is not a remote or hybrid position.
