Psychiatry
MUSC Community Physicians is seeking a dedicated NP/PA -- Psychiatric Hospitalist to provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients at the Leatherman Behavioral Health Pavilion. The NP/ PA will work collaboratively with psychiatrists, medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams to manage acute and chronic medical conditions in psychiatric patients, ensuring holistic and integrated care. The NP/PA will also work as a Hospitalist within the Pee Dee Division in a medical center on a rotational basis.
Patient Population Age Range: 12 years to death
Required Training and Experience
Required Minimum Training:
• Physician Assistant (PA): Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant.
or
• APRN
o FNP (Family NP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.
Required Experience: Must have at least 6 months of hospital medicine experience
Preferred Training and Experience:
• Physician Assistant (PA): Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant.
or
• APRN
o AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner): Adult pts (13 years to death), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable, or technologically dependent (vents, drips, monitors, etc.)
Preferred Experience: Minimum of 1 year as a Physician Assistant or FNP/AGACNP in Hospital medicine and Psychiatric care or ICU experience.
Degree of Supervision: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:
• Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or a Family Nurse Practitioner with the SC Board of Nursing.
• Requires certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). If BLS is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date.
• Requires certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). If ACLS is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date.
• Requires certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Is PALS is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date.
• DHEC and DEA license applications must be submitted prior to first day.
Job Duties
Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:
• Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
• Manage acute and chronic medical illnesses in medical/surgical and psychiatric patients
• Collaborate with psychiatrists to develop and implement treatment plans that address medical and
psychiatric needs
• Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guidelines
• Initiates referrals to other health care provides, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
