Locum Psychiatrist MD/DO needed in Somerville, New Jersey

End: August 23. 2026

Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Summerset needs a locum to work Mon thru Friday 8a to 5p.

Physician is to cover in a consultation liaison role rather than in an inpatient psychiatric unit.

MUST BE Board Certified or Board Eligible.

Provider to evaluate, manage, treat, and discharge psychiatric patients on an inpatient psychiatric unit. Provider needs to be able to manage complex psychiatric conditions and work collaboratively with a treatment team. They may also at times be asked to provide coverage for our consultation liaison services to the medical hospital.

12 to 14 patients per day

Is the provider working solo or with other providers? If so, whom? On 5W, with another provider (MD), splitting 27 bed unit, on 1w with an APN and fellow for 20 bed unit

It is a 27 bed unit which splits the patient load between 2 providers.

We will have instituted a nocturnist program by mid Feb at the latest so there will be no after hours on call responsibilities from 5pm-8am for 7 days a week. However, there are weekend rounding responsibilities, and the provider will be responsible for participating 1 weekend (Sat and Sun) a month for day time coverage 8am- 5pm. This will include rounding on the inpatient unit and coverage in our crisis units.

Our physicians who work there say that when they go in at 8am on the weekend, the in person work is usually done by 2pm. They then go home and can take phone calls until 5pm.
