Job Description:
Join us as a Psychiatrist at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center located in Memphis, TN.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
• 95% of time providing direct patient care.
• Inpatient care:
o Operating & collaborating physician’s patients
o Seeing 1C/1D Psychiatry Service- Ward Patients
o Admitting
o Diagnosis of patients
o Develop treatment plans
o Managing, including performance of timely treatment
o Discharge/treatment
o Include all needed medical record documentation
o Outpatient care
o See al new patient referrals w/ accompanying medical records
o See severely mental ill patients
o Evaluate disposition E-consult
o Post-discharged follow up
o Must see all patients within 30 days
• Clinic & residential care
• Peer review
• Scheduling
• Communication of test results
• Prescribe patient medications within established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
• Discharge education
• Attend staff meetings as required by the facility Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or deginee.
Period of Performance: Base term 1-year 8/1/2025-7/31/2026 w/ four 1-year renewal options.
Schedule: Full-time. On call (4:30P-8A Mon-Fri) Schedules by facility/department:
General Mental Health Clinic: Mon-Fri 8A-4:30P
Inpatient Psychiatry: Mon-Fri 8A-5P
Specialty Clinics : Mon-Fri 8A-4 :30P. Includes Psychosocial Rehabilitation & Recovery Center (PRRC), Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM), PTSD Clinic, and Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs.
Weekend Inpatient Coverage: 8A-4:30P Sat & Sun
Qualifications:
• Education. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree specializing in Psychiatry.
• Licensure and certification. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice Psychiatric Medicine in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the United State or the District of Columbia. BC/BE by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Psychiatry required. DEA and NPI required. Current BLS and ACLS or equivalent also required.
• English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
• Subject to background/security investigation.
• Must pass TB test.
• Complete and online onboarding process.
• Willingness to comply with Department of Veterans Affairs vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19.
• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
• Must be a US citizen to apply for this job.
