Emergency Psychiatrist Needed in Dallas, TX | Nights Only | 2 Shifts/Week | No Call | 13 Weeks
Job description
Start: October 5, 2026 (or as soon as credentialed)
Length: 13 weeks (open to extension)
Coverage: Emergency and consult psychiatry - two psychiatric ER units (PED and PEU) plus a psychiatric ER consult team responding to consults in the medical ER and psychiatric intake area
Schedule: Nights, 7:00p-7:00a (12-hour shifts); any two days Tuesday-Saturday per week
Call: No call - provider is on site
Volume: Maximum 10 patients per shift on the psych ER units; consult team averages 5-6 patients per 12-hour shift
Patient Population: Adults, with infrequent psychiatric consultation on pediatric patients in the medical ER
Practice Setting: Acute care hospital, Level I-IV trauma
Complete initial and follow-up psychiatric evaluations. Work alongside the multidisciplinary team, communicating recommendations and placing orders. Doc-to-doc communication for transfers between the psychiatric ER units and the main ED. Consult other services as needed, including hospitalist medicine. Complete legal paperwork for involuntary psychiatric hospitalization (OPC applications). Handle physician-only tasks in support of APPs - restraint orders, face-to-face exams, and OPC signatures. Admit patients to psychiatric observation as indicated. Timely documentation in Epic.
Requirements
- Board Certified in Psychiatry (BC only - board eligible not accepted)
- Texas license and DEA required
- Comfortable with emergency psychiatric evaluation and involuntary commitment paperwork
- Local providers prioritized
