Emergency Psychiatrist Needed for Overnight Coverage in Texas

Job description

Aya Locums is seeking a board-certified Psychiatrist for an Emergency Psychiatry assignment in Texas beginning October 5, 2026.

The schedule consists of two 12-hour overnight shifts per week from approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Coverage may be scheduled on any two days between Tuesday and Saturday. There is no call responsibility, and the psychiatrist will remain onsite during scheduled shifts. The initial assignment is expected to run approximately 13 weeks with the option to extend.

The psychiatrist will work within a hospital-based psychiatric emergency service that includes two dedicated psychiatric emergency units, a psychiatric intake area, and a consult service responding to psychiatric needs within the medical emergency department.

Physicians assigned to the psychiatric emergency units are expected to manage up to approximately 10 patients during a shift. When working with the consult service, the anticipated volume is approximately five to six patients during a 12-hour shift.

Responsibilities include initial and follow-up psychiatric evaluations, collaboration with multidisciplinary clinicians, recommendations to consulting services, coordination of transfers between psychiatric and medical emergency settings, and consultation with other clinical services when appropriate.

The psychiatrist may also complete documentation related to involuntary psychiatric hospitalization, physician-specific responsibilities associated with APP-managed patients, restraint-related evaluations and orders, and admission of patients to psychiatric observation when indicated.

The primary population is adults, although occasional psychiatric consultation involving pediatric patients may occur within the medical emergency department. Epic is used for documentation.

Current board certification in Psychiatry is required. Local candidates may receive priority, but physicians interested in the clinical structure and overnight schedule are encouraged to discuss their background and availability.

Compensation will be discussed based on experience, availability, and the final coverage arrangement.

Contact Josh Turner with Aya Locums to discuss the assignment, clinical expectations, and whether this type of Emergency Psychiatry coverage fits what you are looking for.
